cranio-facial, cranio-mandibular, crani-cervical therapy
Evaluation and treatment of dysfunctions of the facial muscles, mandible and upper cervical region. Dysfunctions include, but not limited to TMJ, disc displacement, popping/ clicking of jaw, neck pain, headaches, tinnitus, migraines, unable to open mouth due to pain and limitations, unable to eat due to jaw pain, etc,. Incorporating techniques learned from Dr. Mariano Rocabado, University of St. Augustine Cranio-Facial Certification Program to name a few.
Evaluation and treatment of dysfunctions of the tongue and oral-motor region. Dysfunctions include, but not limited to tongue tie (headaches), sleep apnea, difficulty chewing etc, lisp, open mouth breathing, in children and adults through Myofunctional therapy. Works closely with Dentists that also specialize in tongue tie and related issues.
Evaluation and treatment of dysfunctions of posture and alignment such as forward head posture, which have a strong correlation to TMJ/D dysfunction. Dysfunctions include, not limited to rounded shoulders, forward head, military neck, reversed cervical spine, hyper mobile spine etc,.
Previously un-conscious breathing and posture have been the norm. We now know that good posture and healthy breathing are not only essential to good health, but essential in disease prevention. Poor breathing, Asthma, Sleep Apnea, open mouth breathing etc. have been linked to disease processes. Conscious posture and diaphragmatic breathing is crucial to feed the bodies cells oxygen. When we breathe with the diaphragm, we feed the body 600% more oxygen than it gets when we unconsciously use the muscles in the upper chest. The compensatory breathing and posture can also cause anxiety, low tone, headaches, migraines, TMJ, and other disabling problems.
Postural Respiration incorporates an evaluation of why the breathing is inefficient, and then implements the correct techniques for future healthy breathing. Becoming conscious of our breathing and posture is a step towards good health.
Headache & Migraine treatment
Evaluation and treatment of Headaches and Migraines with symptoms such as throbbing or pulsing pain is associated with migraine while pressure or “vice-like” pain is typically associated with tension headaches. In these headaches, the severity may vary from mild to severe. Cluster headache is stabbing, piercing, and severe. Sinus headaches are described as pressure and pain behind the eyes, along the cheeks, or in the areas of the upper teeth and forehead.
Types of Headaches we treat:
Mixed or Mixed Tension Migraine
Areas of Pain that we treat:
Forehead: Headaches that occur along both sides of the forehead are often tension headaches or sinus headaches. If the pain is one-sided, then migraine or cluster headache may be more likely.
Top of head: Pain along the top of the head is non-specific and can be seen with tension headaches as well as migraine headaches.
Back of head: Headache pain occurring along the back of the head is often associated with tension headache, especially if spasms of the neck or cervical spinal muscles are identified.
Side of head: Pain on the side of the head can be associated with migraine headaches, especially if the pain is one-sided or unilateral. Very severe pain on one side of the head may suggest cluster headache. Tension headache can cause pressure and pain along both sides of the head.
Behind eye: Pain located behind one eye can be seen with migraine headache.
How we treat the Headache & Migraines:
Through targeted massage, manual therapy, cranio-cervical and cranio-sacral therapy we are able to reduce the muscle spasms and misalignment that causes the Headaches & Migraines.
